The Parliamentary Vasudan Empire (abbreviated as PVE or VPE) was a union of Vasudan-held planets that formed the Vasudan Empire. The space-based military wing of the PVE is known as the Parliamentary Vasudan Navy (PVN). Curiously, the corresponding GTN (for GTA) appears much less often.

The capital of the PVE was Vasuda Prime until it was devastated by SD Lucifer in 2335. Afterwards, the capital was moved to Aldebaran.

FreeSpace 2 describes the ruling Parliament of Vasuda circa the Great War as having been plagued with Byzantine infighting and serious corruption; whatever the civilian government's faults, the PVN seems not to have been seriously affected by them. As Khonsu II dissolved the Parliament of Vasuda without provoking a notable upheaval in Vasudan society, the powers of the Emperor even under the parliamentary system must have remained relatively broad.


The following information has not been confirmed by Volition and is therefore not canon for the FreeSpace universe.

The Parliamentary Vasudan Empire was governed by a duality consisting of an Emperor and the Parliament. Though members of parliament made the main decisions, large decisions had to be authorized by the Emperor before they can be enforced or carried out. The intermediaries between the Emperor and the Parliament, known as the Advisory Commission, held a very high status in Vasudan society.

However, the dual-governing system and power sharing agreement between the Emperor and the Parliament gave rise to tension throughout Vasudan history. The distribution of influence between the Emperor and the Parliament was often unbalanced: During the Terran-Vasudan War and the subsequent Great War, the Parliament held almost supreme power with the Emperor being virtually a figurehead rather than a political entity. However, this concentration of power soon bred corruption, and the Parliament became wrought with treachery.

However, this in turn led to the Parliament's influence to wane during the early phases of the Reconstruction period. The corruption within the Parliament allowed the newly crowned Emperor Khonsu II to consolidate the powers of the Emperor. Following this, the weakened Parliament relinquished its power and was officially disbanded. The duality of the Parliamentary Vasudan Empire, which had stood for hundreds of years, had ended, leading to the rise of the Vasudan Imperium and the founding of the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance.
