Wow... awesome bio. I had no idea of your pure FS fanaticism. Played the OEM version for two years- damn! Kudos. You've really seen it all. Mustang19 23:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah I've basically never played any other game but FreeSpace for most of my life. :D Snail 15:14, 31 March 2008 (CST)

The christmas I got TIE Fighter (1995?) I played it on my dad's 90 MHz Pentium laptop so much that the joystick's calibration broke and the little rubber mouse nub wore off. I think I remember passing out in the middle of one mission and waking up and finishing it later, and I'm sure I brought the discs with us to my aunt's in San Diego, where I spent the entire summer vacation in a dark room serving Admiral Thrawn. Maybe the best time of my life. Machaka 21:48, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

If you see a spelling eror, you're welcome to correct it, but thanks for pointing that out. --Mars 02:20, 18 August 2006 (BST)

When I was tinkering around with mission tables, I got light capital when I tried out the Seraphim. AllStarZ 00:18, 5 November 2007 (CST)

Not Sparta...

What's it take to drive Snail mad? 124 consecutive edits. Nice job with the cleanup of the user-made ship pages. -- BlueFlames 16:45, 5 September 2008 (CDT)

random whatever

Actually I intend to make a bunch of Vasudan ships for exactly that reason. Have a bunch of rough sketches I've been doodling while at work. And also have one Shivan Cruiser in mind, but if I do him I'd probably save it for my campaign so that'd be a long ways off. Got the Anouke just about done, after that I might try to put together a pack of 6-8 fighters. Akalabeth

That sounds really cool and would give the community so many more Vasudan ships to play with. - Snail 14:32, 7 September 2008 (CDT)

Karnak page

I meant "canonical" in the sense of "what Dark and Ace intended", but your rewording is definitely clearer. :) Goober5000 18:37, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Iceni Comment

It DOES more or less state outright everything it says was said above...what's your reasoning?

I have no reasoning, only peanuts. Feel free to re-delete it I guess... I am sorry for getting in the way of your Jihad. - Snail 10:05, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Don't get all passive-aggressive on me. You did have a reason I hope. :p Ngtm1r 23:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

At a glance it looked like a reasonable, well-written comment, but I guess you're right. DON'T HURT ME PLEASE I'M SORRY D: - Snail 10:38, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

3.6.11 open question

Normally I would ask this on the Hard light forums, but I am very relucent to had out my e-mail adress at the moment. Either way, I am hearing much about this 3.6.11 open build for the SCP, yet they don't say where to get it, do you where to get it? Grunt minion22 7:21am November 1, 2009.

  • 3.6.11 open builds are 'nightly' builds, one is released each day. They are not stable, and will likely cause problems if you do something wrong with your mod. I personally don't recommend them, but here: Nightly Builds Board. Good luck with whatever it is you're doing. - Snail 15:23, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Removing Shivan stats

Have you read the last two comments on my talk page in the shivan stats section? I explained how I found them though table editting and Topace comfirmed it. He had tried it himself, and managed to get it by modified the Hercules, so please, what I was posting on all those Shivan fighters there IS canon. If you don't believe me, go make all of the Shivan fighters flyable and it will give you its stats in the Ship selection page. Grunt minion22 6:42am 23 December 2009

  • Bla bla bla. Doesn't change the fact that those stats are non-canon, due to being the result of a SCP code change. In retail, you would never, ever get to see those stats. Even if you edited the tables. Thus, they are not wiki material (or need to be marked as non-canon). It would help if you would follow the discussions on HLP or join the #hard-light IRC channel, where these things can be discussed before they hit the wiki. The E 13:15, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
    • Discussion on the HLP Wiki Forum has confirmed those stats are non-canon. They do not belong on the Wiki. - Snail 13:55, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

ASW Issues

Ok, this problem has not occuried anywhere else, so sorry for dragging you into this. Its just that I am able to get most of Ancient-Shivan War to work, yet there is still some crashing errors that I don't know if they came with the game or not, and have been effecting other people. I do got all the Vp files located inside the ASW folder, and copied into the tables. I started up the game, but I ended up getting messages saying that the game can't find the flyby sounds for the Ancients and Ashesidions (however its spelled) and uses Terrans and Vasudans instead. Going forward, I managed to get the game up, with the correct intro, the background picture, and all ships in the tech database, made a new character and selected the Ancient-Shivan War campain. BUT, instead, I get a dozen debugger messages exiting out of the game informing me that "arguement is illegal" and its all about the User-made cutsceen. I have not encountered this problem anywhere else, this happening to you or anyone else, or I'm just screwed up as usual. Grunt minion22 8:22pm, 16 January 2010

You really, really, REALLY need a forum account. Snail, as awesome as he is, is not the Tech Support person, I am. He also isn't a member of the ASW team. So, please register at HLP. Open a thread detailing your problem, with a fs2_open.log attached, in the support board. Then we can help you sort this out. The E 04:37, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Aww, someone thinks I'm smart. How touching. :) - Snail 10:21, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I am just a bit distrustful of forums since my LAST incident with them that resulted in my email getting spammed up. If the only email sent is just the activation code, and nothing else, then I'll do it and stop asking questions here :). Grunt minion22 8:08am, 17 Januaray 2010

  • HLP doesn't spam you. - TopAce 14:34, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Sorry, different forum site. Grunt minion22 9:39am, 17 Januaray 2010
  • On the topic, no one forces you to use exactly one email address. I, for example, have an university email, a nerd magazine email, a Gmail email, a Windows Live email and a piece of defecation email. I use the last one whenever I'm registering to places and/or have a feeling that whichever email I give there might end up getting spam. In short, you could just open up a new email account for your registration needs/whatever. Also, the only emails I've gotten from HLP have been strictly business. No spam. Ever. - Fisk 18:54, 17 January 2010 (EET)

Actually, great idea! --Monitor 22:52, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Minor edits

Bleh I keep doing that by mistake, sorry. I think it's because I set my preferences to always set things as minor edits by default at some point. - Snail 16:21, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

On this...

Hey, thanks. You did a great job slimming down the opening paragraph. -- Androgeos Exeunt 13:55, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

  • Actually I have been thinking about the ship intro paragraphs. Currently a lot of them seem to be glorified Vet Comments which strike me as out of place. I think we might need to reconsider what does and does not belong in those blurbs. - Snail 18:55, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, we probably should. When I was uploading the retail ship images, I also tried to expand the opening paragraphs of most of these articles to give them a bit more substance. In a number of cases, I took leaves from the VCs, which might not have been the brightest idea. -- Androgeos Exeunt 05:15, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Maybe we should consider just paring them right down to a line or two. Ship name, class, period of activity, introduced during... basic facts we can apply across the board for every non mod ship (and a fair chunk of the mod ships too). All the other info can go into the relevant headings deeper in the article. Black Wolf 11:06, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Yeah. However, I do think interesting trivia and facts about ships could go up there, so I'll leave those be. Basically I think we should go ahead and remove any subjective info from the blurbs but leave facts and stuff. - Snail 20:55, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Snail, are you a moderator? --FlamingCobra 01:12, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

  • No. And I know exactly what you are going to say. Don't say it. - Snail 11:54, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
    • Truth be told, I wasn't going to say anything else and I had forgotten all about this until now, because I came back to ask you another question: Is it ok to upload .hcf files? --FlamingCobra 02:52, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
      • I, uh, I don't know. I'm not sure it's even supported by the uploader. - Snail 19:24, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Um... I've been working on a mission for a campaign that I'm thinking up and I was going to ask you to be a beta tester until I found out you are on the Earth Defense team. Then when I started looking at the story of Earth Defense I noticed there are a few similarities between my idea and ED's, so should I just scrap everything I have and start over or what? I also was thinking of using some assets from the ED asset release pack and a few things from BP. Is this also a bad idea? --FlamingCobra 22:12, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
