The Pyro-GX is the player ship from Descent and Descent II, earlier games created by the FreeSpace team. Notwithstanding the title Descent: FreeSpace, the games are unrelated other than two references: the Synaptic bomb is nicknamed the "Earthshaker" after a similar weapon from Descent II, and a cargo container carrying the antagonist Dravis' Diary in the mission Apocalypse.
