The reverse engineering of the Knossos portal, manufactured by the Ancients, is implied at the end of FreeSpace 2. A broad reference to the capacity to restore collapsed jump nodes is also present in FS1. Therefore, the concept of devices and installations capable of reopening the Sol jump node in Delta Serpentis after the Capella crisis has sparked many ideas among FS fans and campaign developers. The Sol-DS node collapsed on March 29th, 2335, following the destruction of the SD Lucifer.

Several fan-made devices/installations have been designed and released, all fulfilling the exact same purpose. Please note that, due to the specific setting of each fan-made campaign, the dates of reopening may not be clearly specified, or differ substantially. The size of these devices also varies considerably between campaigns. References to such assets are hereby listed by order of release of their respective campaign(s):

Inferno

  • GTI Melia (INFR1). Also known as Sol Gate. Node restored in circa June 2400.
  • GTI Ishtar (Nostos). Also known as Sol Gate. Node restored on March 30th, 2399, one day after the anniversary of its destruction.
