FS1 Tech Room Description
The Amun is the Vasudans' heaviest bomber class ship. It carries a massive payload and has been responsible for the destruction of at least 3 Orion-class destroyers in the past 2 years. Fortunately, it is slow and has low maneuverability, making it an easy target for our fighters. Fighter pilots should be wary of the two turrets on this ship: they are not to be ignored.
The Amun is considered a B class threat to all cruisers and capital ships. They should be given top priority in target selection during escort operations.
Developer Notes
Suitable for any size target. Carries most missile types, but few cannons. Armed with defensive turret, but still requires escort.
Name origin
In Egyptian mythology, Amun (name meaning "hidden") was an important deity, the god of the air.

Whatever Vasudan thought it would be a good idea to replace this with the Osiris should be shot as a traitor, because surely only the GTA and Shivans benefited from that decision. The Amun has superior payload and defenses, including two turrets. While slow, and rarely bothering to demonstrate it, the Amun is a surprisingly capable dogfighter. It has the armor and shielding to stand up to fire long enough to bring you into its sights, and then unleash a torrent of ordnance few ships can survive.
It is an effective bomber, but very slow and unmanageable, like the GTB Ursa.
The Amun may be the slowest FreeSpace bomber, but it's also the toughest, with the highest hull integrity of any ship, both games included. I was surprised to see it absent from FreeSpace 2, although the GVB Sekhmet and GVB Bakha are fair replacements; the Sekhmet slightly superior to the Ursa (and much faster).
