General
GTI was the vast intelligence gathering arm of the old GTA, responsible for many of the strategies and technologies developed in the Great War. The GTI was divided into three seperate branches: Special Ops, R&D, and Intel.
GTI Special Operations was responsible for undercover missions, containment, missions involving sensitive data, and highly dangerous or covert military actions in enemy territory. Led by the GTD Krios, Special Ops undertook missions too highly classified or too downright dangerous for average GTA pilots.
The mission of GTI R&D was the research and development of cutting-edge technologies. The theft, analysis, and reverse engineering of Vasudan and Shivan technologies were headed by the R&D department with their subcontractor Triton Dynamics developing new craft and technologies. Countless GTA weapons and warships began their life as GTI prototypes. All research and development was headed by the GTD Repulse.
GTI Intelligence, led by the GTD Soyakaze, specialized in espionage, reconnaissance, and counter-intelligence. The primary mission of Intel was to provide Terran Command with accurate and comprehensive information regarding the tactics, technologies, activities, and strategic objectives of the GTA's enemies, specifically the Shivans and the Vasudan insurgency, Hammer of Light. Intel had their own spies on the inside of the VPE during the 14-Year War in the guise of Vasudan defectors.
The flagship and base of command for the GTI was the GTD Legion, which coordinated actions between the three branches and acted as a liason for GTA High Command. For example, Command needs a pilot to go undercover in enemy Vasudan territory. The mission is carried out by a spy with information from Intel, handled by Special Ops, using a Vasudan craft modified by R&D. Unfortunately, the destruction of the Legion by the SD Lucifer at the Great War Battle of Deneb caused intercommunication and relations between the three factions and the GTA to fragment, indirectly leading to the ill-fated Hades Rebellion and the events of the Silent Threat campaign.
With the formation of the GTVA in 2345, the former GTI's duties were fully assumed by the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Intelligence branch of the GTVA, now under far stricter supervision.
