ACT 3 MISSION 4
Fighter squadron:
Description:
Background
To rescue a group of Vasudan refugees who may have found the key to saving humanity, the GTA launches a squadron from the GTD Bastion.
Walkthrough
This mission involves three wings of four (a whole squadron.) By default Alpha wing is full of Ulysses class space-superiority fighters armed with (2) Prometheus and (2) Avenger cannons and (40) Hornetss, Beta is equipped with Medusa bombers armed with (2) Avenger cannons, (5) Stilleto 2s, (5) Synaptic anti-fighter bombs, and (5) Tsunamis, Gamma is equipped with Herc heavy assault fighters outfitted with (4) Banshee lasers, and (2) Disruptor cannons and in secondary (15) GTM Interceptor missiles and (5) Phoenix anti-bomber missiles.
As a space-superiority fighter your job in this mission is to engage the Shivan interceptors before they threaten Beta wings bombers or Gamma wings heavy fighters. The Dragons tend to cause problems, so if you can hit them at long range with your secondary. After the initial clash is over locate Gamma wing and fly escort, ordering Alpha 2 to do the same and the rest of Alpha to remain with Beta. Gamma will attempt to destroy the SC Zenith’s communications sub-system, as a space-superiority fighter you won’t be able to lay down as much firepower as the Hercs are going to, but every bit counts. Keep an eye on Beta’s status monitors, if they start flashing ignore Gamma for a bit and help Beta out.
If Gamma fails to destroy the communications sub-system, order Beta’s heavy bombers to deal with it, the Zenith’s communications but be destroyed or the mission gets much more difficult. Just stick near the Zenith and destroy interceptors as they jump in, eventually a Hammer of Light cruiser, the GVC Aten class Benedict will jump in some distance from your position, along with a wing of Thoth class space-superiority fighters, leave the rest of Alpha wing near the bombers, and just try to take out as many of the Thoths as possible before they reach your squadron. Keep in mind the Thoth has around twice the firepower of your GTF Ulysses so use caution on your approach.
When the Zenith ‘’finally’’ goes down, order Beta to attack the PVC Benedict, if Beta is dead, order Gamma to do it, if Gamma has been wiped out you’d better start over. Before the Benedict goes down, rearm, once it goes down brace you, the next mission’s red alert, and it’s called Running the Gauntlet.
