The GVF Horus was one of the oldest and most widely-used fighters in the Vasudan navy. The Horus was a light interceptor with high speed and maneuverability and good primary weapons compatibility at the expense of shielding, armor, and secondary bank size.

Description:

FS1 Tech Room Description

The Horus interceptor can outrun any ship in the PVN or the GTA. This makes it extremely dangerous. Its above average weapons capacity, combined with its good maneuverability and shielding make this one of the most well designed Interceptors in the galaxy. This ship is responsible for the destruction of more GTA bombers than any other.

As a C class threat, Horus interceptors should be dealt with as quickly as possible.

FS2 Tech Room Description

The GVF Horus was the fastest fighter class during the Great War and it's still the fastest fighter in the GTVA fleet. Its weapon capacity is average for a fighter, with four primary banks and two missile bays. The Horus pays for its speed and maneuverability with thin armor and relatively weak shields. The Horus shines as a bomber interceptor, a role Allied Command puts it in as often as possible. For offensive operations against well-defended targets, however, the Horus is a poor choice.

Developer Notes

Extremely fast with good weapons compatibility. Very useful in any kind of engagement.

Name origin

In Egyptian mythology, Horus was one of the first deities. Over the years, he gained many forms and associations. He is most commonly depicted as a falcon. His father was Osiris, who was (in one myth cycle) killed by Seth.

It is to be noted that the Horus is one of the rare FS1-era ships to have different stats in FS2, alongside the Demon. The FS2 Horus is slightly more manoeuvrable and more durable than its FS1 cousin.

The Horus is a good ship in FS1, something to worry you if you're flying a bomber or a Herc. It is a privilege to be able to fly in FS2, and also, strangely superior to the newer Serapis in most respects. Compared to the Serapis the Horus's only serious flaw is smaller secondary banks, and the Horus actually has stronger shields and is faster. These qualities give it a better survival rate in combat than the Serapis, in my experience. Given a choice I will fly the Horus rather than the Serapis every time.

An excellent fighter, especially in multiplayer dogfight games, but the gold in this particular category goes to the Thoth, which is smaller and has better placed primary banks, allowing it to take out enemies with ease with quad Mekhu HL-Ds

In my opinion, easily the best of the Vasudan fighters. Not that this is saying much, since I hate Vasudan ships. It's highly maneuverable, and not made of pasteboard. It even has a reasonable amount of weapons capacity.

The best damn interceptor in the game, though the GTF Perseus is a better fighter craft overall. Highly maneuverable, relatively durable, and a good secondary capacity. It also has the highest speed of anything you will ever fly, and afterburner capacity is pretty big. Personally, my favorite.

I hate the Horus, so I find it weird that many pilots praise it. Even at full shields with 23% hull integrity, it couldn't survive the shockwave of a Piranha exploding while defending the Aquitaine. While I would give the thumbs-up to the Horus for its speed, it has too much inertia when it pitches to make it really effective as an interceptor; in close-quarters combat, it's likely to be flanked by fighters that may be slower, but can turn faster, and personally, I would rather chase down Piranha-wielding Nahemas in a Serapis than chase them in this.

The Horus also suffers from inadequate primary placement, much like the Thoth. The Serapis beats both FS1-era Vasudan fighters in this regard.
