GVB Osiris
| ||||||||
|
The GVB Osiris is a Vasudan-designed bomber, brought into service prior to or during the Terran-Vasudan War. While it served as the Parliamentary Vasudan Navy (PVN)'s main bomber during the Great War, the aftermath of that conflict, as well as developments in the Vasudan fleet from 2335 to 2367, meant that, although still commissioned, the Osiris is classified as a reserve bomber by the time of the Second Shivan Incursion.
Among the three bombers in the Vasudan fleet (the other two being the GVB Bakha and GVB Sekhmet) during the time of the Second Shivan Incursion, the Osiris is the slowest, the least agile, carries the lightest payload, and has the worst shield system of the three. However, the Osiris is also the most durable, and is the only bomber among the three to sport two automated turrets—or any turrets, for that matter.

Description:
FS1 Tech Room Description
The Osiris has now become the standard bomber for use in PVN operations. It has replaced the Amun, correcting many of the faults of its predecessor. It is not quite as sturdy, but it has nearly the same weapons capacity, and is faster and more maneuverable.
The Osiris should be considered a C class threat to Fenris class cruisers, and a D class threat otherwise.
FS2 Tech Room Description
The GVB Osiris was the primary bomber of the PVN during the Great War. It is showing its age during the current conflict, as the more advanced Bakha and Sekhmet bombers have replaced it on the front lines in most theatres of conflict. Osiris bombers still in service have been retrofitted to make them compatible with most GTVA missiles and bombs. If well-protected by fighter escorts, a wing of Osiris bombers can still wreak havoc on enemy cruisers and corvettes.
Developer Notes
Low maneuverability and low top speed. However, carries good payload including space bombs. Most commonly used in cruiser strikes.
Name origin
In Egyptian mythology, Osiris is the god of life, fertility, and death. His wife and sister was Isis. It is said that Horus was his son.

The Osiris, is, simply put, a piece of junk. It has widely-placed gunpoints useless for attacking fightercraft (it is possible to completely miss a Perseus or a Seth that's in the center of your reticule at short range!), and deficient payload space: it is capable of only a single pass with FS2-era weaponry, though you might manage to squeeze out a second pass with Tsunamis in FS1 if you're lucky. It's a piece of junk with bombs, however, so put it out of its misery quickly before they overwhelm whatever you're escorting.
Something cute about these though is that they have two turrets, rather than one like most bombers. The Prometheus-R they come with as standard equipment isn't too dangerous to fighters, but it makes them stronger in action than on paper simply because they're laying down fire in every direction as they shuffle along.
Its turrets get deadly if you're unshielded but, predictably, so do most things. The turrets are even deadlier when facing a full wing of bombers since it's very easy to get caught in the crossfire.
The Osiris used to be a good bomber in FS1. Although it is still capable of carrying Cyclops torpedoes, it doesn't stand a comparison with most other FS2-era bombers.
